The Airport Access Alternatives Analysis for Dallas Love Field focused on evaluating improvements to the primary airport entrance at the intersection of Mockingbird Lane and Cedar Springs Road (Herb Kelleher Way). This intersection serves as the primary access point to the airport and experiences significant congestion due to increasing passenger volumes and regional traffic demand.
As part of the broader Dallas Love Field Master Plan, the study evaluated multiple alternatives to improve traffic flow, enhance safety, and increase operational reliability. Public planning efforts identified the intersection as a critical bottleneck, carrying approximately 80,000 vehicles per day, with continued growth expected as airport activity increases.
The alternatives analysis included evaluation of multiple infrastructure solutions such as grade-separated interchanges, tunnel concepts, flyover structures, and new access points, along with assessment of operational impacts, constructability considerations, and community constraints. The study supported identification of feasible solutions to improve airport access while minimizing disruption to surrounding neighborhoods and airport operations. The roadway was prone to flooding during storm events and also required new stormwater management systems and additional infrastructure.
APR supported the planning team by providing conceptual cost estimating and cost analysis services for multiple access alternatives evaluated as part of the study.
APR developed planning-level cost estimates for a range of potential infrastructure solutions, including at-grade improvements, grade-separated intersections, and alternative access configurations. These estimates were used to compare alternatives and evaluate cost implications alongside operational and technical considerations.
APR also supported scenario analysis and cost modeling, helping the project team assess trade-offs between different design approaches, phasing strategies, and implementation scenarios. Cost forecasting and escalation analysis were incorporated to evaluate long-term program impacts and funding considerations.
Through structured cost analysis, APR provided defensible cost comparisons across alternatives, enabling the project team to identify viable solutions and support informed decision-making within the broader airport master planning process.
